Creative Nerve offers the award winning interactive artworks of Camille Utterback
on a subscription basis.
Creative Nerve’s unique subscription model allows clients to display Utterback’s engaging work, without the significant up-front commitment of collecting or commissioning a project from this internationally acclaimed artist.

During the subscription term, clients may chose to display one of Utterback’s works in their space, or rotate through a number of pieces.

Creative Nerve uses an internet connection to swap the artwork on display when you request it, and to monitor and maintain your installation - including startup and shutdown of the installation at times you provide us.

A monthly subscription fee is determined by the number of pieces you chose to display during the subscription term.

Please contact us directly for more information on our subscription terms and fees.

We look forward to discussing how Utterback’s installations can enliven your lobby, home, restaurant, hotel, waiting room, children’s area – or any other space where interactive art may intrigue and fascinate your audience.

Four distinct series of work are currently available. The series are grouped to reflect pieces of various aesthetic styles that also function on the same physical setup.

Currently available series:
External Measures | Liquid Time | Playful Portraits | Interactive Text

External Measures Series
The External Measures series are ‘living paintings’ generated by people’s movement in the installation space. Utterback’s software turns input from an overhead video camera into beautiful and subtle projections which evolve over time. The effect is an endlessly engaging system that allows viewers to become active participants in creating what they see. Visually, these works share a lineage with abstract expressionist painting, and draw from Utterback’s early career as a painter. These sophisticated works transform any space into a contemplative yet vibrant experience.

Liquid Time Series

Imagine that your movement could create warps and ripples in time. In the Liquid Time series installations, people’s motion in the installation space fragments time in a pre-recorded video clip. As a participant moves towards the projection screen they push deeper into time—but only in the area of the screen directly in front of them. As viewers move away, the fragmented image heals in their wake—like a pond returning to stillness. The different pieces in the series manipulate footage from recognizable locations in Tokyo and New York, as well as abstracted architectural imagery. This series offers a unique interpretation of urban experience, and instills participants with the excitement and infinite possibility of city life.

Playful Portraits Series
The Playful Portraits series reveals people's reflections in unexpected and eye-catching ways. As participants walk past these projections they see a live video of themselves, but their reflections are made up of text, tiny images, or vanishing traces of color. Viewers quickly recognize their likenesses in the projections, then are drawn in to read the text, investigate the imagery, or play with the mysterious colored lines that compose them. While the Playful Portraits series are predominantly fun, the imagery they create contains both less and more visual resolution than the original video – causing participants to think about larger issues of self-representation and the ease with which digital data can be translated into other forms.

Written Forms
The text, icons, and colors in all of the pieces in this series are customizable – allowing you to fine-tune the imagery of these works to captivate your audience.

Interactive Text Series
The installations in the Interactive Text series, allow people to use their entire bodies to play with projected text that magically responds to their movements. Viewers can catch falling letters or scrape away clouds of color in order to reveal words in a quote. Participants first notice a live image of themselves in a large projection. Exclamations of delight and wonder quickly follow as they discover that elements in the projection react to them.

In the Interactive Text series, the act of reading becomes a physical and social experience. People cooperate to find words, or compete to collect their own letters. These popular pieces cause businessmen to stop in their tracks, and kids of all ages to play in front of them for hours.

Text Rain
Transforming Ideas can be customized with a series of your own quotations. Text Rain is a highly publicized and recognized artwork by Camille Utterback and Romy Achituv. Because the artists consider the original text integral to the artwork, this piece is not currently available for customization.
